Professor Irene Ten Cate Named Editor in Chief of Legal Writing

Professor Irene Ten Cate, who is an associate professor of legal writing and a co-director of the Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law, was recently named editor in chief of Legal Writing: The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute.
Ten Cate, who joined Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ in 2021, previously served as essay editor and assistant editor in chief for the journal. One of the leading peer-reviewed journals in the field, Legal Writing provides a forum for the publication of scholarly articles about the theory, substance, and pedagogy of legal writing.
"Legal writing is still a young academic discipline, but it has tremendous breadth and depth,” Ten Cate said. “Legal Writing has played a key role in developing the field, publishing pioneering scholarship about rhetoric and storytelling, including in judicial opinions and written and oral advocacy; legal reasoning; pedagogy; the legal academy; and the rise of generative artificial intelligence; among other subjects. I am honored and excited to lead the journal as it is approaching its 30th birthday."
Other professors at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ are also actively involved in editing academic journals in the field of legal writing. Professor of Legal Writing Maria Termini, who is co-director of legal research and writing, also serves on the editorial board of Legal Writing. Assistant Professor of Legal Writing Meg Holzer is an editorial board member for another peer-reviewed publication, The Second Draft.
